“I’m a refugee from Sri Lanka. I can’t tell you why I’m here but I’ve been in Japan for more than two years now. I work in construction as a welder. The pay is ok. 1,600 yen (15 USD) an hour and I work from 8 am to 7:30 pm. Although I wish I can find a higher paying job that’s not so physically demanding. Actually I just came from the immigration office to renew my work permit otherwise you’re not allowed to do work with my visa status.”
